InLight Beauty: why I love it & what makes it so special. A brand spotlight.

In the sea of green beauty, it takes a lot for a brand to intrigue me. When I first encountered InLight Beauty, I was immediately captivated: true slow beauty that is handmade in Cornwall, England – all products 100% organic, entirely produced in-house from cold pressed oils and macerations of herbs and flowers. 

Founded and formulated by the medical doctor, herbalist and homeopath Dr. Mariano Spiezia, whose interest in organic skincare dates back to the 1980s. I was intrigued by the meticulous attention that is given to quality, by the slow production process that includes exposing the oil infused plants to sound and sunlight and moonlight over many weeks. By the commitment to the purest possible products, without preservatives, without emulsifiers, without altering the nature of the plants.

1. They truly feed your skin – let yourself be surprised by your skin’s response.

‚Only nature respects the nature of your skin‘, that is the premise of Dr. Spiezia. All formulations are based on the ‚Bio Lipophilic Matrix‘, a blend of cold-pressed oils. Why? Because it has a ‚biochemical affinity to the skin‘ – which means that the skin is able to utilise the products for its own natural mechanisms.

You have to understand skin to be able to support, nurture and heal it – its functioning, its composition. This is exactly what InLight Beauty does – and why their products works so incredibly well. Not via isolated actives, but through a holistic composition that corresponds to the skin – each with a specific emphasis: the Night Balm as a deeply nourishing potion, the Calendula & Damask Rose Healing Balm as a soothing salve. One of our favourites is the Line Softener, a balm made to support the skin by feeding its collagen production mechanism. All these formulas are working with the skin, not whipping it into perfection, and that is exactly what makes them so highly effective. They nurture our skin back to health. 2. They are incredibly effective – yet incredibly gentle.

Oh, do we love an effective product! One that eliminates impurities, plumps and fortifies. But how is that done? Often, hard measures are taken. Blackheads, for example: the tiny black or greyish dots that we often find in the t-zone – on the nose, chin, sometimes cheeks. They don’t vanish by simply washing the face. So general advice regarding them tends to be extreme: squeezing them out (and damaging the pores in the process), or using an aggressive acid to loosen the hardened serum.

 

InLight Beauty takes a different approach – one that looks at the causes, not the symptoms. They treat ‚like with like‘ by offering a cleansing balm that closely matches the skin’s sebum composition. The Face Cleanser Balm is one of our favourite products of the line. It’s the most effective product we have ever used to remove these pesky black dots. You know why it works? Because in most cases, what we call blackheads are actually just ‚sebaceous filaments‘: normal pores filled with sebum due to slightly overactive sebaceous glands. These pores are healthy, just a little too hard working when it comes to skin lubrication.

So what do we do about them? We loosen them, gently. When using the cleanser, take the time to gently massage it in circular motions, and after a few minutes you will start to feel grainy little things under your fingertips. These are the sebaceous filaments, the little plugs in the pore coming out – loosened by the balm, brought out by your gentle massage. Without harshness, without damage to the skin. It happens so efficiently that is feels a bit like a miracle. We had clients stare at their noses in disbelief after using the Face Cleanser for a few days – because they did not know that they could have clean and almost invisible pores.
